Last week saw FOGS finals footy at Kev McKell Oval for the first time and a big crowd was on hand to see two great games of semi final football. In the first clash unfortunately the Panther Colts went down 28 - 26 to the Easts Tigers. Extra dissapointing was the fact the Colts led 26 - 18 with less the ten minutes to play but could not deny the fast finishing Tigers.
The Panthers Colts premiership defence now comes to a close but the team has shown if they stick together and play more consistently better results are not far away. They showed on many occasions during the season they can beat any team, but as the team is relatively young time is on there side to come back next year bigger, better and stronger and give the premiership another try.
In the FOGS Cup clash the second placed Panthers came up against a desperate Burleigh team who needed to win to stay alive in the finals race and after Burliegh took a 18 - 14 lead into the break they found themselves in front 28 -14 with 15 minutes to play. Then the Panthers clicked into gear increased the tempo and scored which made the score 28 alll with a kick from the sideline to come. Kicker Matt Church stepped up to the ball and made the conversion to put the Panthers in front 30 - 28 with 5 minutes to play.
The play of the day was left to the dying minutes with Burliegh on the attack Fullback Matt Church has taken an intercept on the Wests twenty metre line and raced 80 metres to score in front of a packed Leagues Club deck. The score finshed Wests 34 defeated Burliegh 28. The win now sees the Panthers move onto the Grand Final qualifier against Wynnum Manly at Kougari Oval this Saturday at 2pm.
